Sugarhouse are pledging to help save the planet… Can you?

Here at Sugarhouse we are very aware of the current issues surrounding the environment. There are endless documentaries being broadcast and the sound of David Attenborough's pleas are enough to make everyone want to do something to help! At the end of the day, it’s our generation that's going to start to see the detrimental effects that careless waste and pollution are having on our beautiful planet. If we can start to make even the smallest changes in our own habits, it will all contribute to the bigger picture.

There is a ton of information online on ways we can help the environment, and some of it can be quite daunting! We know not everyone can change to an off grid totally green lifestyle, but actively making a few small changes in your life will make such a difference. It only takes a couple of seconds to look at wildlife charity pages, and climate change websites to remind yourself why it’s really important that you recycle that milk bottle instead of throwing it in the bin!

The Green Pledge that we are making, will be focussing on a few key points which we believe will help us to reduce our own carbon footprint - maybe you could use some of our ideas to tackle your own!

  • Go Paperless! Wherever possible, we are avoiding printing unnecessarily. To help us to tackle this, our processes have all gone digital this year, including our signing process and landlord paperwork! By not using paper contracts and forms this year alone, we believe we have saved hundreds of thousands of sheets of paper! Easy really isn’t it? Have a think to yourself, do you really need to print that email? Do you really need paper statements from your bank? Could you go paperless?
  • One of the biggest projects across the world at the moment is to increase recyclable products and get rid of those that end up in landfill. When landfill gets burnt it releases more harmful gases into the atmosphere... if you've watched David Attenborough's recent series, you'll know the horrifying affects this is having on our polar ice caps! Here at Sugarhouse, we are trying to make a concerted effort to recycle as much as we can, we’ve installed a dedicated bin in the office, and all staff are being encouraged to recycle their lunch packaging, milk bottles, plastic bottles and any waste paper in a bid to make Sugarhouse more eco-friendly. How can we go on damaging some of the most beautiful countries in the world with this pollution? Increasing your recycling and being more careful with what you throw away will reduce the amount that goes to landfill!
  • Saving electricity! This one's really simple... whenever you're not using lights or appliances whether you're at home or at work, TURN THEM OFF!! In the long term, the more electricity saved by simple changes like this, reduces the pollution created when the supplies are being created. Opting for 'Green Energy' like we have with our bills inclusive packages means that your energy supply is responsibly sourced from green energy providers like Wind Power, Hydro Power and Solar Power. We’re already a huge fan of Green Energy, so if you have your bills included through Sugarhouse or our sister company Flexibill, you can rest assured that the supply you’re receiving is already green energy! So we’re doing our bit to help the environment around us, and so are you!

If we can do it, so can you! The dreadful images of Turtles with packaging stuck round their shells, or sea birds with plastic bags in their stomachs alone should be enough for everyone to do their bit to help the environment! Although we'll never stop climate change, we can all do our bit! Even using reusable packaging instead of buying new bags every time you’re shopping can help!
